“Sometimes I only understand a song through other people's reactions. That was the case with Thousand Oceans . My husband Mark had just lost his father… …There's not much you can do for someone who has lost the person who was probably the most important person in their life. I often held him in my arms and took long walks with him. I was just there for him a lot. However, I didn't really get access to him. I still have my mother and father, so I missed that experience. And it was difficult for me to get through to Mark. I only managed to do that with the song Thousand Oceans. After Mark heard it for the first time, he kept coming to me, sitting next to the piano and saying, “Please play the song again.” And I played it for him. That's how I got in touch with him again. I brought him back from his other galaxy, where he was millions of miles away from me.”
